My favorite thing about spring is getting outside and enjoying nature and fresh air. Sprouting leaves are such a vibrant energetic green, screaming to be noticed. When I was concepting the Spring Lookbook, I wanted nature to thread throughout each page. The richly patterned blue and white pottery and geometric pillows in blues and persimmon paired well with lush spring greens. I wanted the typography to match the style of the product assortment, which felt both elegant and playful. The typeface used on the cover, called Lust Script, seemed to play up those styles and worked well in a somewhat large scale.
One of my favorite parts of the process was concepting the background for the shot below. I wanted something dramatic and loved the idea of experimenting with pattern on pattern. The result was essentially creating a wallpaper by scaling one of the pottery patterns up to the size of the wall and printing out panels on a large-scale printer. Using some warm tones against the shades of blue created a nice contrast.
The shot below with trees and leaves surrounding the set of blue and white pottery is one of my favorites. I love how the patterns on the pottery are complemented by their surroundings, and seeing the various styles mix together.
