Pantone has recently announced their 2013 color of the year as Emerald. This color couldn’t be further away on the color wheel than last year’s Tangerine Tango (in fact, it’s directly opposite!). If I had to take a guess, I’d say that emerald green started trending after Angelina Jolie wore that elegant Versace dress to the Golden Globes in 2011 (look how closely it matches the swatch!).
Green happens to be one of my favorite colors, and I love that the color references a gemstone! I’m really hoping that the color of the year is a foreshadowing of wealth and an upturn in the economy (at long last!). The peaceful tone will lend itself well to brighter hues in the spring, and deeper, richer hues come fall. The universal appeal of the color works well across fashion and home.
